About the Romeo Area R/C Club
AMA Charter # 1244
The Romeo Area Radio Control (R/C) Model
Airplane Club has been located in Macomb County since it's inception in
1972. The club has had several flying locations with the current
location in northern Macomb County, 5 miles southeast of Romeo. The
flying field is located at 30 Mile
Road and Kunstman Road on property
owned by the Wolcott Mill Metropark
of the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan
Authority. Directions
The general public is welcome to visit the flying site (when the access
gate is open) but all "users and observers" must display a current
Metropark Vehicle Entry Permit.
The field currently occupies about 6 acres and has tables for assembly of aircraft, several start-up stands, transmitter impound stand and covered pavilion with 2 picnic tables. The field is maintained professionally, and by club members, resulting in a closely cut and manicured grass field. Tuesday and Thursday nights are reserved for student flight training. We encourage pilots and instructors to come out to the field, and others refrain from flying when a student wants to fly.
The club hosts several model flying contests, flight demonstrations, a youth day and family activities. The flying contests consist of Fun Flys, Stand-off Scale and electric events.
By agreement with the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority,
club membership is limited. Club members are required to have a current
membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and Metropark
passes are provided as part of membership dues. Non-club, AMA members
can only fly as a "guest"
of a "host" member, following the
established/posted "Guest Rules"; guest pilots must show proof of AMA
membership.
